In December 1891,  James Naismith, YMCA training school physical education teacher decided to adapt then known children&#8217;s game called duck-on-a-rock where small stone is thrown at a made-up duck positioned on the big rock. The aim was to knock off the duck.</p>
<p>James Naismith was told to invent a new game that could be played indoors during cold weather in Massachusetts. So the reason <strong>why was basketball invented</strong> is really practical one. All basketball fans should be thankful for cold weather in Massachusetts.</p>
